The default gridname is ‘simonastick’ – it doesn’t have to be changed, but you might want to change it to something more user-friendly or so that if you move everything to where people can access the world via the Internet that it has an identifiable name.

The welcome message is shown briefly whilst the viewer is logging on; it’s just nicer to have it say something more appropriate.

To change both the gridname and welcome message, you need to edit the following file in a text editor:

diva-rxxxxx>bin>config-include>MyWorld.ini

Change:

[DataSnapshot]
    gridname = "simonastick"

To your preferred gridname:

[DataSnapshot]
    gridname = "My Grid"

And change:

[GridInfoService]
    login = http://127.0.0.1:9100/
    gridname = "simonastick"
    gridnick = "simonastick"

to match:

[GridInfoService]
    login = http://127.0.0.1:9100/
    gridname = "My Grid"
    gridnick = "My Grid"

And change:

[WifiService]
    GridName = "simonastick"
    LoginURL = "http://127.0.0.1:9100"
    WebAddress = "http://127.0.0.1:9100"

To match:

[WifiService]
    GridName = "My Grid"
    LoginURL = "http://127.0.0.1:9100"
    WebAddress = "http://127.0.0.1:9100"

Finally, to change the welcome message, change:

[LoginService]
    WelcomeMessage = "Hello and welcome to Sim-on-a-Stick 0.8PF"

To your message:

[LoginService]
    WelcomeMessage = "Hello and welcome to My Grid"

Remember to save.

You will need to restart the opensim console to see your changes reflected when you login to your virtual world.
